ISSUES

PUBLIC HEALTH
The Kansas Legislature is doing everything it can to limit her powers to guide our state safely through re-opening. Christina will utilize her public health expertise to provide insight and persuade others in the Legislature to adopt a health-focused, science-based government response.

Refusing to expand Medicaid has cost our state $2 billion, and kept quality health insurance from 150,000 people in the middle of a pandemic. Over 70% of Kansans support expanding access to affordable coverage which will save lives and lower expenses for everyone.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
The fight for equality, equity, and justice is a continuous fight that I work alongside our grassroots organizations in the state house. Christina has successfully passed her cosponsored bill Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) and has stood up to the hate of anti-sanctuary city policies.
EXPAND MEDICAID ACCESS

PASS SENSIBLE GUN LAWS
Unlimited access to military-grade weapons and repealed training requirements have resulted in thousands of preventable deaths in Kansas. Christina will vote for reasonable gun legislation including stronger background check requirements and assault weapons bans.

DEFEND EDUCATION FUNDING
Lawrence has a tradition of strong public schools and is serviced by two universities: the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University. Christina will stand strong to stop attacks on K-12 and higher education funding.

PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT
Climate change is an existential threat to the people and economy of Kansas. We must act forcefully and immediately to promote the development of renewable energy resources and achieve a 100% clean energy operation by the year 2030.

REFORM POLICING SYSTEM
Christina will fight to end qualified immunity, require liability insurance for police officers to price bad cops out of a job, and extend whistleblower protections to ensure that good cops who report abuses of power are not retaliated against.

FIGHT FOR REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS
Reproductive rights are constantly under attack in the Kansas Legislature, even though a majority of Kansans support abortion access. Christina will never allow anti-choice extremists to control what women and people with uteruses do with their own bodies.

LEGALIZE RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA
Legal recreational marijuana will help block the school-to-prison pipeline, increase tax revenue to fill the upcoming post-COVID budget shortfall, and allow farmers more choices of crops to grow. We should legalize it immediately and release anyone currently imprisoned for its possession.

Kansas needs policies in place to protect our LGBTQIA+ community from discriminatory policies such as being denied access to housing, a job, and we need to eliminate conversion therapy. We need to create a safe and inclusive Kansas for our future.

We are still facing the consequences of Brownback's failed tax experiment. We need to pass fiscally sound financial legislation that benefits the working class. That includes working towards a fair property, income, and sales tax.

Our local businesses are a pillar of our community. From Baldwin City's Main St. to Massachusetts St. in Lawrence, we must support them through this economically challenging time. Christina will work with our state's leaders on safe and supportive local and small business legislation.
